Obituary

Dorothy J. Mooney, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away the evening of January 1, 2019 at Jameson Care Center in New Castle at the age of 86. She was born November 7, 1932 in French Equaltorial, Africa, now known as the New Central African Republic. She was the daughter of Arthur I. and Linda (Thompson) Seymour. She was preceded in death on August 2, 2014 by her husband of 47 years, Ralph Mooney, whom she married April 15, 1967. Dorothy was a 1950 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City and received her Registered Nurse degree in 1953 from Jameson Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse in Berkley, California until her retirement and then was a homemaker for the last 47 years. Mrs. Mooney was an active member of First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, was on the Christian Education Board and active in Womens Bible studies. She also was involved in the GALS ministry, led one-on-one discipleship and sang in the church choir for years. Dorothy was active with Highland House Ministries for over 12 years, a member of the Jameson Alumni, and for over 50 years was associated with choir ministries. Among her many interests, Dottie enjoyed knitting, reading, music, travel and crocheting. She loved spending time with her family and dining with friends. She is survived by two daughters, Sheila Lin (Brian) Lloyd of Woodstock, VA and Elaine (Geoff) Miodowski of Linden, MI; two sons, Kevin David Mooney and Gordon (Lois) Mooney all of New Castle; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son in 2018, Douglas Mooney; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. David and Ruth Seymour; and one sister, Grace Struck. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, from 10:00-12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 12:00 at the funeral home with the Rev. John Yergan officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
