Dorothy J. Capan Sawyer, 72, 125 W. North St., New Castle, passed away the morning of November 1, 2010 in Laurel Ridge Nursing Home in Uniontown.Born December 18, 1937, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Ray and Dorothy Hake Bales. She was married to Steve Capan, and he preceded her in death. She then married Frank Sawyer, who also preceded her in death. Dorothy graduated from New Castle High School. She worked for Ohio Bell as a telephone operator. Dorothy had a love for animals.Dorothy is survived by two sons, Steve M. Capan of Maineville, OH and Joseph Capan of Deerfield, OH; two brothers, Ray D. Bales Jr of New Castle and Robert G. Bales of Mayflower, Ark.; two sisters, Betsy Hela of Perryopolis, PA and Debra Wyle of New Castle; and three grandchildren.In addition to her parents and two husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Robert Capan, a brother, James J. Bales, and a granddaughter, Jenny Capan.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
