Dorothy M. Shaffer, 92, of New Castle, went to be with her Lord on March 3, 2017 at the Haven Convalescent Home. Born September 4, 1924 in New Castle, she was the daughter of John and Mary Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lisle J. Shaffer, whom she married in 1947. She served as a WAVE in the Navy during WWII. Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family. She was a life member of Croton United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Post 315. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards and was the charter member of O.N.O. card club. Most important to her was her family and the times she spent with them. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Donald Eve of New Castle; one sister, Charlotte (Fred) Caruso; two granddaughters, Kim Eve and Kristen (Joseph) Lalama; and three great-granddaughters, Annalynn, Emma, and Lucia Lalama. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ruth Wilson and Jeanne Grimm; and one brother, Sgt. James E. Wilson. Dorothys family wishes to express their appreciation to Mark Tanner and the entire staff of the Haven Convalescent Home for the wonderful care and compassion given to her over the years. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Long officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
