Dorothy Grace Simon, 100, passed away the afternoon of October 12, 2014 at the Jameson Care Center. Dorothy was born on June 27, 1914, in New Castle, to the late Samuel and Molly Levine. She married Alvin J. Simon on July 2, 1939. He preceded her in passing. Mrs. Simon work in a variety of places, such as Oscar Levine's men's store and with Dr. Gilmore as a dental hygienist. She was a graduate of New Castle High School and the University of Pennsylvania.She enjoyed playing Mahjong and bingo. She liked doing crossword puzzles and was an avid internet and Facebook follower. Mrs. Simon was a member of Temple Hadar Israel and took part in the Temple Hadar Sisterhood and Hadassah. Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Hiroshi Kunishi of Columbia, SC; her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda Simon of New Castle; three grandchildren, Michael White, Monica and Carl Simon and five great grandchildren, Allison and Cory White and Jake, Tyler and Ryan Simon. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing by two sisters, Paula Miller and Mildred Levine and one brother, Lester Levine. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday, October 15, 2014, from 10-11 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rabbi Stein will officiate. Burial will take place Temple Hadar Israel Cemetery.Contributions can be made to the donor choice of charity.
