On August 16th, 2022, God called Douglas Hockenberry to his heavenly home. He was born in Ellwood City, PA on December 10, 1954. He married his high school sweetheart, Ronda (Shallenberger) Hockenberry in 1974. He was blessed with one daughter, Alyssa (Shawn) Daugherty, two grandchildren, Logan and Makayla Bosworth, and four step-granddaughters, Savannah, Kaylee, Lilly, and Cora Daugherty. Doug was the youngest of five brothers. He is met in Heaven by his parents, Kenneth Sr. and Mary Hockenberry, two brothers, Kenneth Hockenberry, Jr. and Timothy Hockenberry, parents-in-law, James and Dorothy Shallenberger, brother-in-law Dennis Shallenberger, and nephews Mark Shallenberger, Jason Hockenberry, and Cody Hockenberry. His surviving brothers, Daniel (Shelley) and Chuck Hockenberry, carry on his legacy of love for God and family. He is also survived by brother-in-law Richard (Mary) Shallenberger, sisters-in-law Marcia Hockenberry, Kitty Hockenberry and Millie Shallenberger, thirteen nieces and nephews, thirteen great- nieces and nephews, and one great-great-niece. Doug was a kind, gentle, warm-hearted man who dedicated his life to living for God and loving his family. He was a 1973 graduate of Mercer High School, and went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute and an Associate's Degree in Computer Information Systems from Butler County Community College. He was a hard-working man who spent all of his free time with his family and enjoying God's creation while hunting and fishing. He was soft spoken, but on many Sunday afternoons he could be heard yelling at the television when he felt the referees made a bad call against the Steelers. His proudest accomplishment was being a father and grandfather. He ended every conversation by saying 'I love you', and he never missed an opportunity to mess with his daughter's and grandchildren's minds. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Maitland Lane Free Methodist Church, 121 E Maitland Lane, New Castle. A memorial service will be held immediately following visitation, with the Rev. Glen Wills officiating.
