Duane G. Duncan, age 88, of Zelienople, PA, passed away the evening of Jan. 29, 2025, at Lutheran Senior Life Passavant Community in Zelienople, PA.
Born Jan. 9, 1937, in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late Glenn W. and Esther (Wilkins) Duncan.
Duane graduated from Fairview High School in Erie, PA, and Penn State. He served as a 4-H summer assistant in Lawrence County in 1957 where he met his wife Donna L. (Walters) Duncan. They were married on Oct. 4, 1958. She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 2023.
After graduation Duane started in Adams County as Assistant County Agent mainly working with 4-H. In 1967 Duane was promoted to Cumberland County Extension Director where he continued to work with 4-H horse and dairy programs until his retirement in 2003. Duane was inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame in 2013.
On Memorial Day Duane and Donna would cook their well-loved chicken, on an open fire, for family and friends. They also enjoyed gardening and planting flowers together throughout their just shy of 65 years of marriage. Duane was a member of Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church.
Survivors include Larry and Janet Duncan; Marilyn Whitmer; nieces and nephews Trinda Booher (Matt Harlan), Cathy Sodersten (Mark), Jodi Ketterer, Brian Walters (Michelle), Pam Nasr (Isam), Chrissy Leidy (Ben), Kirk Whitmer (Kerstin), Janell Amodio (Ignazio), Sarah Scyster (Shawn), Emily Paladin (Larry), and Rachel Gabler (Rick), and several great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and wife, Duane was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Janet L. Dean, and brother-in-law, Larry Walters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday Feb. 2nd from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM and Monday Feb. 3rd from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, Feb. 3rd, immediately following visitation at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dan Owen, officiating.
Burial will be alongside his wife at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.
