Dwight E. Anderson, 92, of New Castle, PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, October 27, 2014, at the Overlook Medical Clinic, New Wilmington, PA. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Mildred L. Zeigler. Born on February 18, 1922, in Pulaski, PA, he was the son of the late Claire Anderson and Ina Dodds Anderson Cover. During WW II, Dwight served in the U.S. Army personnel office of the 99th General Hospital in England and France. After the war, he married Mildred on February 22, 1946. They moved to Chicago, IL, where Dwight attended Moody Bible Institute. From there he pastored Baptist churches in Burghill, OH, Patton, PA, Eash Mahoning and Pine Flats in Purchase Line, PA, Gillett Baptist Church in Gillett, PA, Aldenville Baptist and Clinton Center churches in Aldenville, PA. After retiring from full time ministry in 1987, Dwight and his wife returned to New Castle, PA, where both were born and raised. Dwight loved reading, gardening, spending time outdoors, and fixing things in innovative ways. He seemed to be constantly working on new projects. He also enjoyed telling humorous stories, then laughing so hard, he had to wipe his eyes. He is described by his son as having an open and practical mind, sharing information with him, such as, "The earth is, on average, 93 million miles from the sun, and that a car runs on tiny explosions." He had a true zest for life, and strove to be faithful to the Lord. He was known for his honesty and integrity, and was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church. His life verses of Scripture were Proverbs 3:5, 6, which read, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dennis Anderson and life partner, Yali Zhang, of Londonderry, NH; his daughter, Carol Harris of Honesdale, PA; his sister, Helen Guthrie and husband, Jack, of Boardman, OH; one stepbrother, Lewis Cover and wife, Shirley, of New Castle, PA; one step sister, Vera Cochran of Livonia, Michigan; one stepbrother-in-law, Paul Allen of Pittsburgh, PA; and a sister-in-law, Ada Zeigler of New Castle, PA. Dwight is also survived by five grandchildren: Carrie, Tracy, David, Heather, and Wendy; and six great grandchildren: Zachary, Carissa, Jacob, Gabriel, Abigail, and Emma; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his stepsister, Helen "Phoebe" Allen. There will be visitation on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with a funeral service following at 1 p.m., all at Harmony Baptist Church, 4103, Ellwood Road, New Castle, PA 16101, with Pastor Jim Hockenberry officiating.
