Obituary

Earl B. Hammond Sr., 95, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of November 27, 2017 at Rhodes Estates. Born October 2, 1922, he was the son of the late James B. Hammond and Ada Mae Evans Hammond. He was married to the late Vivian Jean Crawford Hammond, whom he married on July 29, 1944. She preceded him in death on July 14, 2011. Mr. Hammond served his county in WWII as a CPRL in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry. Mr. Hammond retired as Adult Probation Officer for Lawrence County. He also was the Personnel Director at the New Castle Court House and also worked for The New Castle News as an Advertising Sales Rep. Earl enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time at his camp on the Slippery Rock Creek. Earl was a member of the 32nd Degree Lodge of the 433rd Craft, Westminster. He was also a member of the New Castle Consistory, Tall Cedars and First Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He is survived by one son, Blaine Hammond of New Castle, one granddaughter, Hayley and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, an infant daughter, and five brothers. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society in Earl's name. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., where online condolences may be offered at www.cunninghamfh.com. No Visitation: Monday, November 27, 2017
