Obituary

Edith M. Christman, 91, of New Wilmington, passed away the evening of May 5, 2019 at Shenango on the Green. Born December 7, 1927 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Lewis A. and Nancy Ruth (Brest) Robison. She was married to George Warso who preceded her in death in 1958 and the late John O. Bierman who passed away in 1979. On June 20, 1981 she subsequently married Brian B. Christman, Sr. who preceded her in death on June 30, 2000 after 19 years of marriage. Edith was a 1946 graduate of New Castle High School. In her earlier years, she was a switchboard operator with Bell Telephone until she started her family and became a homemaker. In 1980 she began working for Westminster College in the Physical Plant where she was employed for 13 years. She was member of Wimodausis and the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 105. Most important to Edith was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed travel, sewing and camping. She loved to dance and enjoyed dancing with the Paws & Taws. A lifelong member of Eastbrook Presbyterian Church, she served as a Deacon. She is survived by her three daughters, Donna J. Warso (Ken) Salmon of Mercer, Pamela J. Warso (Larry) Kwiat and Faye E. Bierman (Glenn) Hickok both of New Castle; two sons, Clifford G. (Renee') Warso and John A. (Mary Lou) Warso both of New Castle; one step-daughter, Sallie (Bill) Byers of Zelienople; one step-son, Brian B. (Linda) Christman, Jr. of York, PA; one sister, Virginia Anderson of New Castle; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her three husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers, David, Harold, Donald and Lee Robison and two sisters, Flora Gussie Smith and Lauretta Black. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, from 4:00-8:00pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11:00am at the funeral home with the Rev. Jason Schepp officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
