Edith E. Hartfelder, 90, of Neshannock Township, New Castle, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on April 29, 2013 in Frostburg, Maryland. Born February 7, 1923, in New Castle, she was a daughter of George and Frieda Kovacs Bodendorfer. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul E. Hartfelder, whom she married on April 17, 1948. Edith was a graduate of New Castle High School. She was a real estate agent with C. Bender Real Estate and retired from Tanner-Gibson Real Estate. Prior, she was employed as a secretary with the New Castle Public Schools and Penn Power. Edith was very active with the Saxon Ladies, Branch 27, where she was an officer for over 60 years. In 1987 she received the Honor Emblem and Honor Pin in recognition and appreciation for sincere and dedicated service to the Saxon peoples. She was also President of the Transylvanian Saxon Bowling League. Among her other interests, she enjoyed her involvement with both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, charter member of the local chapter of National Secretaries Association and a former member of the Toastmasters.She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide. In addition to her husband Paul of New Castle, she is survived by her three children; a son, Gary A. Hartfelder and wife Judy of Algonquin, IL; two daughters, Amelia A. Johnson and husband Bruce of Cumberland, MD, and Cheryl F. Pearson and husband James of Thousand Oaks, CA; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Albert K. Bodendorfer; two half-sisters, Helen K. Dean and Hilda A. Bassen; and one half-brother, George Bodendorfer.Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Sean Walters of Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 1302 E. Washington Street, New Castle, PA 16101.
