Edith M. Nocera, 96, of New Castle, passed away the evening of January 3, 2015, at Golden Hill Nursing Center, after a meaningful visit with her family.
Edith was born on November 30, 1918, in New Castle, to the late Michael and Nellie DeSimone Letera. She married the late Samuel Nocera in August of 1939.
Mrs. Nocera made a loving home for her husband and daughter, Marlene. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing cards, dancing and was the best pie maker. Edith was a member of St. Camillus Parish.
Mrs. Nocrea is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Walter Gierlach, of New Castle; three grandchildren and their spouses, Marcie and Bill Horn, of New Castle, Walter and Debbie Gierlach of Burbank, CA, Kevin and Stephanie Gierlach of New Castle and four great grandchildren, Krista Gierlach, Ava Horn, Adrienne Gierlach and Kevin W. Gierlach.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in passing by three brothers, William and Anthony Letera and Orlando Vitello and one sister, Connie Hunter.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Tuesday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., New Castle.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Camillus Church. Father Michael Peck will officiate. Procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in Castleview Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations are be asked to be sent to the Jameson Hospice, Wilmington Rd.
