Edith H. Ryan, 96, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Oct. 31, 2013 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born Aug. 1, 1917 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Charles and Matilda Kniss Cornman.Edith married Walter Ryan Nov. 8, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2005. A 1935 graduate of Volant High School, she was the cafeteria manager at Neshannock School District for 25 years, retiring in 1981. She was a volunteer for Jameson Ladies Guild, and she enjoyed travel, flowers and gardening. Edith was a life long member of Third Presbyterian Church and served her church as a deacon. Survivors include her two daughters, Janet Mae and Lee Stoops, and Joyce Elaine and Raymond Perry, both of New Castle;, her son, Walter Samuel and Marti Ryan of Mercer; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Cornman and Charles Cornman; and a sister, Mildred Brenneman. Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, from 10-11 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Michael Spicuzza will officiate. Burial will be at Fair Oaks Cemetery in New Wilmington.
