Edward J. Burns, 98, of New Castle, a retired carpenter, passed away the morning of Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Avalon Nursing Center.
Born in Youngstown, OH on August 25, 1918, he was a son of the late James G. and Mary (Mae) Kight Burns.
On May 17, 1947 he married Mary Belle McKim. They were married for 55 years before she preceded him in death on March 28, 2003.
Mr. Burns was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church. Mr. Burns served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He enjoyed painting, reading, crossword puzzles, archery, and amateur radio.
Survivors include a son, Raymond E. (Patricia) Burns of Jefferson, OH; a daughter, Karen M. (Robert) Bianchi of New Castle; three grandchildren, Brian and Renee Burns and Nicholas Bianchi; ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, James William Burns; sisters, Sarah Helen Adams and Mabel Louella Sankey; and two grandchildren , David and Margaret Burns.
Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00 on Saturday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 4:00 on Saturday with John B. Rossi officiating.
Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery.
