Edward I. McCowin, 81, of Edinburg, PA, passed away the evening of May 21, 2014 in Edison Manor.Born May 30, 1932 in New Castle, he was a son of John "Jack" McCowin and Margaret Lytle McCowin Young.Edward is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Edna Young McCowin, whom he married September 2, 1950.He was a graduate of Shenango High School, and a self-employed bricklayer and contractor.Among his many interests, Ed enjoyed both fishing and hunting.He was of protestant faith.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Kim (Paul) Zentz of Tidioute, PA and Mary Jane (Jim) Book of New Castle; three sons, Timothy (Lillian) McCowin, Craig (Lynne) McCowin, and Daniel (Cassandra) McCowin, all of New Castle; a brother-in-law, Walter "Butch" Young of New Castle; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant child; one sister, Carol Reed; a granddaughter, Kyley McCowin; and a grandson, Craig McCowin.Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev.
