Edward J. Salle, 81, of 444 Leawood Drive, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of April 23, 2016 at Jameson Hospital. Born March 25, 1935 in Whiting, Indiana, he was a son of Sam and Margaret Boscovich Salle. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ernestine "Tina" Kelly Salle, whom he married on April 5, 1961. After graduation, Ed served his country in the U.S. Army as a specialist four. He was employed with Union Carbide Corp. as an inspector-expeditor for 34 years until his retirement. Ed was a member of St. Camillus Church. A member of the Eagles Club, Ed also enjoyed playing tennis and drag racing. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, and had a great affection for his dogs. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, David (Joan) Miller of Schererville, IN, James Salle of Columbus, Ohio, and Timothy (Monica) Salle of New Castle; two sisters, Virginia O'Boy of Whiting, IN, and Dorothy Lambert of Hammond, IN; eight grandchildren, Terri, Kelly, Matthew, Rachel, Danny, Amanda, Eric and Samantha; and five great-grandchildren, Kristan, Michael, Alissa, Brandon and Justin. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Miller; and one brother, David Salle. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A blessing service will be held immediately follow visitation Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Michael Peck officiating.
