Edward G. "Shack" Schachern, 62, of New Castle, passed away the evening of October 10, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Shack was born on November 20, 1950, during a massive snow storm in Rochester, PA, to the late Gerard F. "Shack" and Marian E. Shatzinger Schachern. He was a beloved facility member of the Union Township School District where he taught in the math department. Ed was a graduate of Monaca High School and Slippery Rock University. Shack was a proud member of the K Pulaski Club, loved spending time with his sisters and their families and his friends, was a master at small and large games of chance, and adored his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Ed was of the Catholic faith. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Corry and Autumn Schachern, of New Castle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Michael Henderson, of Monaca, PA, Rebecca and Ken Wobbekind, of Bluffton, SC; two nephews, Mark Henderson and Travis Wobbekind; one niece, Malorie Wobbekind; and two precious grandchildren, Daniel and Aria Schachern. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his brother, David Schachern.Visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., New Castle. A blessing service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Father Thomas Lewandowski will officiate. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery in Monaca, PA.
