Edward L. VanDusen, age 93, formerly of New Castle, passed away on the morning of January 20, 2019 at home in Cleveland.
Born July 9, 1925, he was the son of the late Edward H. and Julia (Daugherty) VanDusen. On August 27, 1947, he married Jane K. Dietterle. She survives.
Ed was a 1943 graduate of New Castle High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in World War II with the 94th Infantry Division. Shortly after serving his country, Edward attended and graduated from Youngstown State University where he lettered for the baseball team.
Ed was most recently a building consultant for Lawrence County Human Services Housing Authority and for forty years was president of VanDusen Construction Company. He served as president of the Rotary Club, New Castle YMCA, Lawrence County Chapters of the Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. He was also member of the Jaycees. He was an amateur magician, loved golf, and enjoyed woodworking and travel. Most of all, he loved his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church where he served as a Tri-M Sunday school teacher and a trustee.
In addition to his wife Jane, Ed is survived by two daughters: Kathy (Steven) Young of Columbus, OH, Sue Ellen (Douglas) Imhoff of Cleveland, OH, one son, David (Linda) VanDusen of Sunrise, FL, four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles.
Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 16 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, with a memorial service at noon with Steve Plyler.
