Edwina Connery Randall, a dedicated feminist and preserver of her family's farm, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012. She was 92.The daughter of Hazel and Edward Connery of New Castle, Ms. Randall was born here and graduated from New Castle High School in 1937.She was married for more than 50 years to George Watson Randall. He preceded her in death. He was a graduate of Lehigh University and employed by Armco Steel in Ambridge.She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1941 and received a master's degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Pittsburgh. Ms. Randall was close to her aunt Helen Riley, also a New Castle native, a kindergarten teacher in Pittsburgh, and a great traveler. Helen took her young niece to visit her maternal grandparents in Yellowstone Park and they rode mules together in the Grand Canyon. Later, Ms. Randall and her husband also traveled widely, visiting Russia and China in the 1970s.In 1975, Ms. Randall and her husband moved from Moon Township to the family farm in Neshannock Township, and continued the restoration of the buildings and land begun by her parents. For 10 years, they had a small flock of sheep, and Ms. Randall learned to spin and weave.She also was active in the League of Women Voters of Lawrence County, in the Lawrence County Chapter of the National Organization for Women and the Lawrence County Peace Alliance.Her door was always open and she had time to listen. She leaves a son, Brian G. Randall, a daughter-in-law, Lynn Johnson, and a grandson, William Randall in Atlanta. She also leaves a daughter, Frederika Randall, a son-in-law, Vittorio Jucker, and a grandson, Tommaso Jucker in Rome, Italy.Her sister Helen of Chappaqua, N.Y., preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother-in-law, R.J. Melvin, a nephew, Thomas Melvin in Chicago, and a niece, Meredith Melvin Adelfio in Washington D.C.There will be no visitation or public service.Memorial contributions may be made to the New Castle Public Library, 207 E.
