Eleanor Ruth Bender, 88, formerly of S. Cascade Street, passed away the morning of January 19, 2012 at the Haven Convalescent Home.She was born in New Castle on December 1, 1923, to the late Thomas and Wilhemina Urban Keeling and married Daniel Bender on October, 2, 1943. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2009. Eleanor was a graduate of New Castle High School. She enjoyed taking care of her family and spending as much time with them as possible. Eleanor was a member of the Eintracht Club, G.B.U. and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Ruth and Curt Johns of New Castle, her son and daughter-in-law; Daniel W. and Judy Bender of Bethel Park and her six grandchildren; Curtis, Brandon and Brian Johns, Amy Kernan and Matthew and Mark Bender, as well as four great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by twin infant sons and her sister; Wilma Lytle.Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Wilmington Road and Sunday, January 22, 2012, from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.Services will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at the church officiated by the Reverend Erin Smith, assisted by Eleanor's grandson, the Reverend Brandon Johns, Pastor of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Woodbridge, VA.Interment will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
