Eleanor B. Burford, 89, of Greer House, formerly of Baldwin Road, passed away at her residence the morning of January 20, 2011.Born March 9, 1921 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Herbert J. and M. Elizabeth McCoy Book. She married Byron D. "Bill" Burford on October 16, 1952. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1993.She was a graduate of New Castle High School, Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and the University of Pittsburgh.Eleanor was retired from Jameson Memorial Hospital where she was a registered nurse and an instructor at Jameson Hospital School of Nursing. She was a faculty member of the University of Pittsburgh at Children's Hospital. She was also a member of the Jameson-Shenango Alumni, University of Pittsburgh Alumni and the Senior Recreation Center of First Presbyterian Church.Eleanor was a member of Third Presbyterian Church where she also attended the Helen Graham Missionary Circle.She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Frank Musolino of New Castle; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Paula Burford of Los Lunas, New Mexico; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; two grandchildren, Kelsey Burford and Nathan Burford; and nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Eagan and Helen Book.Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation Sunday, Jan 23, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. Douglas Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.Memorial contributions can be made to Third Presbyterian Church, 1315 E. Washington Street, New Castle, PA 16101; the Jameson Alumni Scholarship Fund, 1211 Wilmington Avenue, New Castle, PA 16105; or the First Presbyterian Senior Recreation Center, 125 N. Jefferson Street, New Castle, PA 16101.
