Eleanor S. Coates, 89, of Neshannock Township, went to be with the Lord, the evening of August 27, 2020 at ManorCare in McMurray, PA. Born April 14, 1931 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Wilbur and Lena (Warner) Sloan. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Wallace M. Coates, whom she married October 23, 1954. A graduate of New Castle High School and Westminster College, Eleanor was a full time and substitute teacher in the New Castle Area School District. She was also a homemaker. Eleanor enjoyed gardening as well as giving both piano and organ lessons and rescuing cats. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church. She will be sadly missed by, one daughter, Karen L. (Ann) Murdoch of Springfield, Virginia; one son, Gregory P. (Becky) Coates of New Castle; and two grandchildren, Grace Murdoch and Stuart Murdoch. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wilbur and George Sloan. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church.
