Eleanor Joyce Cooper, age 91, of New Castle, passed away early in the morning of September 23, 2026, at UPMC Jameson Hospital, in New Castle.

Born January 4, 1935, in Warren, Ohio, she was the daughter of Earl D. and Lucille (Haines) Walter.

She was preceded in death on January 31, 2012, by her husband of 56 years, Joseph William Cooper, whom she married December 10, 1955.

Eleanor was a graduate of Louisville High School and attended Kent State University for two years. Along with her husband Joe, she gave up an upper middle-class life to devote most of her life to serving her husband in voluntary ministry, including at the Bair Foundation in New Wilmington, PA, doing Marriage Encounters, running Family Life America, and doing short term ministry to India through Backyard Ministries.

She enjoyed her friends, family, and traveling. Most of all, she enjoyed leading people to her Savior, Jesus Christ and praying for the healing of many people.

She was a member of Maitland Lane Free Methodist Church and former active member of Barnstone Ministries.

Eleanor is survived by two sons, Mark Cooper (wife Miriam) of Houston, TX, Dean Cooper (wife Brenda Ann) of Nashville, TN and one daughter, Sheri Ann Mani of New Castle; four grandchildren, Natalie Sevillano, Elisha Cooper (wife Jamie), Elissa Pielemeir (husband Joel), and Josiah Cooper; four great grandchildren, Camille Sevillano, and Aurora, Caleb, and Daniel Pielemeir.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Pearl Walter.

A one-hour visitation will be held on Monday, September 28th, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 2:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.

Burial will take place in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in Canton, Ohio.
