Obituary

Eleanor S. Kumrow, 79, of Shenango Township passed away the afternoon of October 21, 2014 at Jameson Care Center surrounded by her loving family.Born November 9, 1934 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Edgar E. Stroud, Sr. and Hanna Foster Mitchell Stroud.Eleanor married Frank E. Kumrow, Jr. on April 28, 1956. Frank passed away March 17, 2011.She graduated from Shenango High School in 1953 and Slippery Rock University in 1957.Eleanor taught for 36 1/2 years at Shenango Jr./Sr. High School. She taught English, Social Studies and the Gifted program. She was also the chair of the English and Social Studies departments.Eleanor started Shenango PTO and was it's first president.Eleanor began teaching Sunday school at Gardner Chapel Church at the age of 18. She continued teaching Sunday school at First Assembly of God where she was a member. She was Sunday school superintendent, directed Vacation Bible School and volunteered in the nursery.Eleanor loved animals, and enjoyed reading and singing. Eleanor loved to worship the Lord. She spread the Lord's word to everyone she met and touched everyone's life. Family was most important to her and she helped them in many ways.Survivors include a brother, Donald D. & JoAnne Hoch Stroud of Richmond, VA; a sister Chrystle V. Altman and her husband, David Ronald of New Castle, a niece, April Stroud Badger and her husband Ron of New Castle, who were Eleanor's caregivers for 10 years; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Sager Stroud of New Castle, Dora Mae Eagan Stroud of Winter Haven, FL, and Leslie Kumrow of Bradenton, FL; 14 nieces and nephews, 19 great nieces and nephews, 13 great great nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Clinton Stroud, Edgar E. "Bud" Stroud, Jr.; and a sister, Mary Louise Stroud.Visitation will be Friday, October 24, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Chad Stoecker will officiate. The Rev. Doug Lehberger, nephew, will officiate at the committal service.Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God/Missions, 2021 Pulaski Road, New Castle, PA 16105.
