Eleanor Gaynelle "Nonie" Lombardo, 88, of New Castle, passed away the morning of August 12, 2020 at her residence. Born July 19, 1932 in Ebensburg, PA, she was a daughter of William and Helen (Passmore) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Lombardo, whom she married August 21, 1951. Mrs. Lombardo was employed with the Jameson Hospital School of Nursing for 20 years, and along with her husband, was the co-owner of Handel's Ice Cream in New Castle. Aside from crocheting, Nonie, as she was affectionately referred to, enjoyed spending time surrounded by her family. A member of First Assembly of God, she was formerly an active youth group leader along with her husband Bob. She is survived by two daughters, Sandy (Michael) Woods and Lynda L. (Juan) Santiago of New Castle; one son, Ralph (Lisa) Lombardo of Statham, Georgia; one sister, Lorraine (James) Lombardo of New Castle; 7 grandchildren, Kim Gentsy, RaeLynn Cook, Michelle DePinto, James, Woods, Raphaelle Lombardo, Angelo Lombardo and Gianni Lombardo; 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death buy 3 sisters, LaRue, Freida and Helen; and two brothers, Bob and Dayton. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 16, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God, 2021 Pulaski Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 4:00 at the church with Pastor John P. Kuert officiating. Visitors are asked to adhere to CDC guideline regarding wearing face masks and practicing social distancing. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
