Eleanor Irene McCormick, 94, of Arcaro Place, Brentwood, TENN, passed away September 4, 2014 at her residence. Born September 27, 1919 in Slippery Rock Township, PA, she was a daughter of R. Edwin and Sara White Gibson.She was preceded in death on July 27, 1973 by her husband of 31 years, Arthur P. McCormick, whom she married November 26, 1941.A 1935 graduate of Princeton High School, she later attended night school in 1959 at the University of Pittsburgh.Prior to her three year employment as a registered representative with Federated Investors, Inc. in Pittsburgh, she held several clerical jobs with National Tube, Shenango Pottery, and the PA Turnpike Commission.As a former resident of Slippery Rock Township, she owned a farm at Gibsondale until 2008.She was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Eleanor enjoyed travel and had traveled throughout North American and Western Europe.She was a member of Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church.She is survived by her two sons, Philip L. McCormick of Dickson, Tenn, and David A. McCormick of Brentwood, Tenn; one granddaughter, Suzanne Wills of McEwen, Tenn; and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Wills, Jacob Wills and Tonilyn Wills.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, R. Arthur Gibson.At Eleanor's request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Hermon Cemetery on Friday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m. and will be officiated by Rev. John Yergan.In lieu of flowers, the immediate family suggests donations may be made in memory of Eleanor to the Lawrence County Historical Society at P.O. Box 1745, New Castle, PA 16103.Arrangements are by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Wilmington Road.
