Eleanore J. "Elli" Flowers Getchy, 84, of Neshannock Township, passed away the night of May 9, 2019 at her residence.
Elli was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania March 20, 1935. She was the daughter of Bert and Margaret (Studebaker) Flowers.
Elli attended Neshannock Township schools and graduated in 1953 from New Castle High School. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology at Thiel College in Greenville, PA. She also did graduate work at Youngstown State and the University of Akron.
Mrs. Getchy taught Biology at Wilmington Area High School and 8th grade Life Science and Biology at Neshannock High School. She enjoyed teaching and had many fond memories of her "kids". She was especially close to the class of '64 at Wilmington High School.
Elli was active in the PA Junior Academy of Science and other professional organizations. She was Presbyterian and had been co-moderator of Presbyterian Women in Shenango Presbytery. She was active in numerous church functions. Elli was also a member of the Studebaker National Family Association.
She enjoyed snow skiing, going to the Ohio State and Notre Dame Football games, good books, music and people.
Elli married Bill Getchy August 22, 1959. Bill was her "Mr. Everything" and preceded her in death on July 8, 2016 after 56 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her grandparents, Joseph and Nellie Studebaker of Worth Township, Slippery Rock; Herbert and Janet Allen Flowers of Poland, Ohio; and her parents, Bert and Margaret Flowers.
She will be deeply missed by her "adopted kids", Dr. Adele Marcotuli, Dr. Alyce Marcotuli, Marilou Allen and Arnie Vance; nephews Rusty (Cheri) Ward of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Jarvis (Nanda) Ward of Louisville, KY; nieces Deborah Troy of Sky View Farms, Mercer and Gail Stahura of Westerville, Ohio; grand-nephews Dr. Josh (Sarah) Ward of North Carolina, Tyler Ward of Bloomfield Hills and Dr. Jarrod Troy of Washington State University; grand-niece Kiley Troy of Mercer; and cousin, Christine White.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Stanley Keehlwetter of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church officiating.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Castle View Memorial Gardens.
