Obituary

Elenora (Ellie) Pettitt McMunn passed away Oct. 30, 2011 at her residence.She was born in Marquette, Nebraska on April 13, 1923, to the late Thomas and Ida Larsen Jensen. She married William J. Pettitt, a soldier in World War II, on March 21, 1945. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1984. She married Dr. H. Earl McMunn on July 2, 1991. He preceded her in death on August 5, 2004. Ellie was a 4-H member for many years. She was awarded many honors. The highlight of her life at that time was being awarded a trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago in December of 1940 as a representative of the state of Nebraska. Following graduation from Marquette High School in 1940, she attended Grand Island Business College. She was employed as a secretary at the home office of Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. She moved to New Castle after her marriage and was employed by Investors Diversified Services for three and a half years. She was employed for twenty seven years in the general office of Universal Rundle Corporation at North Mill Street and retired in 1991.Ellie was proud of her Danish heritage and in her youth was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, a Danish church in Marquette, Nebraska. She was a long time member of Third Presbyterian Church and most recently a member of Highland Presbyterian Church. Her numerous activities included Eastern Star; Wimodausis; Organ Class at Valley Organ in Hermitage, PA; The Ladies of the Castle Red Hat Society; Castle Paws and Taws; Valley Dance Club; Ladies Golf League; and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.She was a collector of teddy bears, plates, and Christmas ornaments.She is survived by twin sons, Richard Pettitt of Clinton, CT, Daniel Pettitt and daughter-in-law Jo of Charlottesville, VA; daughter, Nancy Aubel of Louisville, KY; six granddaughters; three grandsons; five great granddaughters; and one great grandson.In addition to her parents, and husbands, Ellie was preceded in death by a brother, Maynard Jensen of Grand Island, Nebraska.Visitation will be held Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 11-1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road in New Castle, PA.The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Richard Kinney will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
