Ellen Lee Pontius, age 71, of Volant, went to be with our heavenly father on December 30, 2023.
Born November 12, 1952, in Clarksville, PA; she was the daughter of the late Ester (Black) and James W. Shaffer.
Ellen was a graduate of Mercer Area High School, class of 1969. Later in life, she obtained her undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University, and her master's degree in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She used her education and grew her career at Bailey Library on the campus of Slippery Rock University.
Ellen was a faithful member of Eastbrook Village Church. She used her gifts and talents to serve as Children's Fellowship leader and the Secretary of the Eastbrook Mission Barn.
Her hobbies included: reading, gardening, traveling with friends, spending time with family, and babysitting her Grandson Nolan.
She is survived by her husband Timothy Pontius who she married on November 5, 1988; her son Bradley; daughter-in-law Alyssa; grandson Nolan; sister Linda (Keith) Klamer; brothers William (Phyllis) and Fred (Hellen) Shaffer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her brother James A. Shaffer and three sisters, Eileen Stull, Carolyn Buchanan, and Marilyn Bishop.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 10 am until 11 am at Eastbrook Village Church, 2412 Eastbrook Road, New Castle, PA 16101, where the celebration of life service will be held at 11 am, with Pastor Frank Hodges. At the conclusion of the service, friends and family are welcome to gather for lunch.
