Ellenora (Nora) Tervo, 95, of Slippery Rock Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Nora was born in Cortland, Ohio, on November 6, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Heino and Aino Sallmen Crain. She was married to George E. Tervo in New Castle on October 23, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1996.
Nora was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher and a Vacation Bible School Teacher. She sang in the church choir and was active in the Lutheran Church Women's Organization. Nora enjoyed reading, studying the Bible, teaching Swedish weaving which she liked to call "Finnish weaving," bowling in leagues into her 80's, exercising daily, and relaxing in her Finnish sauna. Her life centered around her church and family for whom she was constantly baking the most wonderful pies and other delicious baked goods.
Nora was employed at the Garden of Eagan Garden Center for fifteen years until she was age 82. She enjoyed tending the plants and getting to know customers.
Nora is survived by her son, Daniel (Joyce) Tervo, her two daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Eagan, and Diane (Jody) Vanassa, and daughter-in-law, Diana Tervo, all of New Castle, 10 grandchildren, Brenda (Tim) Johnson, Eric Eagan, Aaron (Kirstan) Tervo, Bria (Edward) Westrick, Christian (Victoria) Vanassa, Austin (Michelle) Vanassa, Brandon (Vanessa) Vanassa, Gary Brown, Jr., Dalton (Daniell) Brown, and Mindy (Baldwin) North, 1 step-grandchild (Christian Beveridge), 21 great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her two sisters, Elaine (John) Ward of Cortland, Ohio, and Adeena Crain of Niles, Ohio.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nora was preceded in death by her son,
James Tervo, her daughter, Susan Tervo Brown Pollio, her grandson, Lon Tervo, her great-grandson, George Henry Tervo, and her brother, Allan Crain.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 23rd from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA 16105.
A Blessing service will be held immediately following visitation at 4:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Rev. Erin Evans, officiating.
Burial will be alongside her husband, at Oak Park Cemetery.
