Elnora J. Powell, 89, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Jan. 14, 2010 in Jameson Hospital.Born March 27, 1920, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Thomas and Josephine Evans Shaffer.She married Russell Powell in 1940. He passed away March 3, 1989.Elnora was a graduate of Shenango High School and attended Slippery Rock College.She was a self employed tax preparer and a sales clerk for Strouss.Elnora was a scout leader and a member of Eastbrook Presbyterian Church.Survivors include two daughters, Roberta Peluso of Winter Park, Fla., and Norma Powell of New Castle; one son, William Powell of New Castle; two brothers, Thomas Shaffer of Crystal River, Fla., and Dr. Edward Shaffer of Loudon, Tenn.; one sister, Elsie Hagan of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Sherrelle Powell and Richard Powell; two grandchildren, Russell Peluso and Richard Peluso; one brother, Terry Shaffer; and one sister, Dorothy Johnson.Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev.
