Erika Tarasyuk Jones, 70, passed away peacefully at home on June 24th 2022 surrounded by her family. A strong and fierce woman, she valiantly battled cancer for many years. Erika was loved by many and she will be dearly missed. Born May 17th, 1952, in Munich Germany, her family relocated to New Castle when she was three years old. She graduated from New Castle High School, and dutifully worked for Jameson/UPMC for over forty years. Erika was a devoted and protective mother who dedicated her life to her beloved daughter and granddaughter; They had many adventures travelling together. Erika enjoyed a good road trip, seeing new places, shopping, baking, and cooking a good meal for family and friends. She cherished the holidays and was known for her elaborate cookie trays. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish. She is preceded in death by her parents, Michael, and Christina Tarasyuk. She is survived by her loving daughter Katina Gurneal (Natasha Mikush) of New Castle, son Richard Gurneal (Annette) of Pulaski, granddaughter Haley Gurneal of New Castle, grandchildren Tyler, Matthew, and Sydney Gurneal of Pulaski, and two brothers, Erv Tarasyuk of New Castle and Michael Tarasyuk of Florida. Services will be held at R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, on Tuesday, June 28th from 5pm to 8pm.
