Ernest M. Armstrong, age 95, of New Castle passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018, in Golden Hills Nursing Home. Born on Dec. 25, 1922, in Slippery Rock Township, he was the son of the late Elmer G. and Madge Fisher Armstrong. Ernest was a graduate of Princeton High School and worked as a machine operator for U.S. Steel in Ellwood City for 33 years until his retirement in 1974.
Ernest liked gardening and remodeling and was a former member of the Odd Fellows Club #9. He was also a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church and its Men's Bible Study.
Survivors include a cousin, Betty Jane McKean of Butler; caregivers, Charles Stewart and Lori Kulnis, both of New Castle; and dear friend Jack Waddell of Beaver.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by a brother, John Armstrong and sister, Evelyn Mae Armstrong.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Judith Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
