Ernest R. McHattie, 79, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of January 30, 2019 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born March 25, 1939 in New Castle, he was the son of Norman and Leona (Shalenberger) McHattie. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Martha E. (Bishop) McHattie whom he married December 12, 1958. Ernest was a graduate of Shenango High School and attended New Castle Business College. He was employed at Shenango Pottery for several years and later worked at Harbor Sales until his retirement. Among his many interests, Mr. McHattie enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and woodworking. He attended Third United Presbyterian Church for many years. In addition to his wife Martha, he is survived by one daughter-in-law, Victoria McHattie and one granddaughter, Moire McHattie. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lori McHattie; one son, Douglas McHattie; and one brother, Norman Bud McHattie. There will be a one hour visitation on Saturday, February 2, from 1:00-2:00pm immediately followed by a 2:00 funeral service at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.cunninghamfh.com
