Obituary

Esther M. Allen, 85, of New Castle passed away on November 16, 2021. Esther was born on July 23, 1936 to Frances and Walter Huffman and was a graduate of New Castle High School. Esther was preceded in death by her husband Oran Allen, to whom she was married for 62 years. Esther was the proud Mother of Barry and Christine (McDonald) Allen, Dan Allen, Lisa (Michael Reeher), and Doug Allen who survive her. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicole (Michael Wright), Ashley (Nick Nardone), McKenna (Nathaniel Dowdell) and Aubrey (Phillip Fava) and her great grandchildren, Alexandria Nardone, Blanton Wright, Mason Nardone, and Kerrigan Dowdell. Esther was an active member of the Independent Methodist Church where she served as a Greeter, Usher, and Communion Steward. She was also Captain of the Prayer Chain and a member of the Spiritual Life Committee and assisted with church seasonal decorating. Esther was an avid bowler and bowled twice a week for many years. She greatly enjoyed the many friends she made along the way and the time they spent together. Esther belonged to the Paws & Taws Western Square Dance Group for many years with her husband. While circling, promenading, and swinging with the other dancers, the couple made many lasting friends. Esther's favorite place to be was the beach and she spent many happy years vacationing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina accompanied by her husband and their best friends with whom she loved spending time whenever she could. Esther was beloved by her family and friends, to whom she dedicated so much of her time and energy. Esther always had a listening ear and a kind heart. She will be fondly remembered as a faith-filled woman with a dry sense of humor who loved to read, learn new things, listen to music, and play cards and board games. A viewing will be held at R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, on Saturday, November 20, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM.
