Obituary

Ethel Dudash Hamelly, 89, formerly a resident of New Castle for 70+ years, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of May 27, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Clearwater, Florida. Ethel was the sweetest of souls and loved by all. She always placed the needs of others first and loved her children & their families, which included 10 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all of those who knew her. Born July 30, 1926 in New Castle, Ethel was a daughter of Frank and Mary Byers Dudash. Following her graduation from Shenango High School, Ethel was employed by Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. She then married Lewis Hamelly Sr., and together they raised 4 children. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lewis, Sr. in 1993 (after 45 years of marriage), her sisters - Margaret Fedor, Helen Misco, Emma Ridenbaugh, Olga Westrick, her brothers - Bill Dudash and Elmer Dudash, and her young granddaughter Elisabeth Hamelly. She is survived by her daughters and sons: Rosemary Chill (Clearwater FL) who with her husband Don have 2 children - Stephanie Susan Freeman (Oil City, PA) who with her husband Tom have 4 sons - Joshua (married to Vivianne with 3 children, Thomas, Sofia & John), Michael, Zachary, & Benjamin; Joseph Hamelly (Cumming, GA) who with his wife Janine have 1 surviving daughter, Gabrielle; and Lewis Hamelly, Jr. (Hawthorn Woods, IL) who with his wife Dianne have 2 children - Kara McDonnell (married to Ciarán, with 2 daughters, Katherine & Eva) - and Chris Hamelly (married to Jenn with 2 boys & 2 girls, John, Luke, Clare, and Mary). Visitation: Thursday, June 2 from 4pm - 8 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA, 16105 (724) 658 -4511. Funeral: A procession will leave the funeral home Friday at 9:30 a.m. for a Catholic Funeral Mass at St. Camillus Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial: Castle View Mausoleum, immediately following the Mass.
