Obituary

Eugene S. Blaskewicz, 69, of Neshannock Township, passed away January 19, 2017 at St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian, Virginia. Born November 11, 1947 in McKeesport, Pa., he was the son of Stanley Francis Blaskewicz and Sophie Castor Blaskewicz. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Nancy Onopa Blaskewicz, whom he married August 21, 1971. After his high school graduation, Gene served his country as a medic in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he obtained further education from Mercy Hospital, enabling him to become a Medical Ultrasonographer. Prior to his employment with NW Physician Consultants in Midlothian, VA, he was the department head of Ultrasound at Greenville Hospital in Greenville, PA. Gene was a member of several professional organizations in addition to the Elks Club and the Walmo Lyons in New Castle, and the Knights of Columbus in Midlothian. In addition to enjoying billiards, Gene loved his work and was fortunate to be able to continue working into the new year. He was a member of St. Camillus Church of New Castle. In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by one daughter, Julie Blaskewicz Boron (Michael Clayton) of Omaha, NE; one son, Michael Blaskewicz of New Castle; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jim Fichtner of Jeanette, PA; one niece, Briana Dyer of Fort Lauderdale, FL; and three granddaughters, Alexis, Lennon and Ione. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A procession will leave the funeral home Friday at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Camillus Church, 314 W.Englewood Avenue, New Castle, at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Father Michael Peck will be officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence County Veterans or to the American Cancer Society.
