Eugenia C. "Genie" Othites, 81, formerly of Manor Avenue, went to be with the Lord the morning of December 23, 2011 at Jameson Hospital.Born September 4, 1930 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Michael and Kalliope Balasakis Othites.She was a graduate of New Castle High School and Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. She received her teaching certificate from Slippery Rock University.Genie was a missionary teacher in Malaysia, Kenya, India and England. She then was employed with the Pennsylvania Department of Health where she later retired. After retirement she was a substitute teacher with Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV.Genie was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in New Wilmington.She is survived by a brother, George Othites and a sister, Fannie Marcantino, both of New Castle.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor David Robinson and Pastor Ron Nagel will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Emmanuel, John and Constantine Othites and one sister, Sadie Othites.Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Baptist Church Mission Fund, P.O.Box 258, New Wilmington, PA 16142.
