Eva Audrey Mills, age 96, died peacefully on the evening of Tuesday, January 22nd at Carriage Manor. Born to the late Philip and Belva Bridenbaugh on August 8, 1922, Audrey grew up in New Castle and attended New Castle High School, where her father, P.H., was one of the most prominent figures in New Castle coaching history. The love of football ran deep in the Bridenbaughs blood. As her father coached the Canes, Audrey was among the first cheerleaders at the school. Her love of football never diminished, and she held season tickets for her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers for decades. Even in her final years, Audrey never missed watching a game. While attending Grove City College, Audrey met Robert Tut Mills, before he left to serve in WWII. Audrey completed her degree at Pitt, and upon Tuts return in 1946, the couple married. They then welcomed a daughter, Suzanne, followed by twin sons, Larry and Phil. Audrey was a devoted wife and nurturing mother and grandmother. From quilting to gardening and playing golf, Audrey had many talents and cultivated many friends to share them with over the years, as a member of Bridge Club, Garden Club, and the New Castle Country Club. Audreys favorite part of any meal was dessertshe took cream in her coffee and extra whipped cream on her pumpkin pie, which was her signature dish. Her family delighted in sharing meals together at her longtime home on Fording Road. In addition to her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Tut; her sister, Betty Flagler; and her brother, Ross Bridenbaugh. Audrey is survived by her three children - Suzy Allen of East Stroudsburg, PA, Phil (Kim) Mills of Cumberland, MD, and Larry Mills of New Castle. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, all of whom she cherished and lovingly made into Steelers fans across the globe. The family is especially grateful to all of the staff at Carriage Manor, who cared for her so wonderfully over the past seven years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, where Audrey was a lifelong member. Audreys favorite Psalm says, This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Unwavering in her faith, Audrey rejoiced in each day that she was given, gifting all those who loved her with her warmth and humor, and above all, a spirit that bloomed as beautifully as the roses she grew.
