Evan R. Thomas, age 82 of Butler, PA, passed away the early morning of July 24, 2021, in Harrisville, PA. Born July 22, 1939, in Braddock, PA, he was the son of the late Rev. Evan P. and Frances (Chappell) Thomas. In Nov. of 1992, he married his beloved wife, Mary M. (Grossman) Thomas. She survives at home. Evan was a 1957 graduate of New Castle High School. In 1961, Evan graduated from Asbury College, located in Wilmore, KY, and from there completed his post graduate work at Wittenburg University, in Springfield, Ohio. Evan earned his Master's degree from Ohio State University and completed his post graduate work at OSU. In 1993, Evan retired from Columbus Ohio Public School, after 31 years of dedicated employment. He then went on to work at Fedex Custom Critical, in Akron, Ohio, retiring in 2011, after 17 years of employment. Evan, and his wife Mary attended Christ's Outreach Church in Butler, PA. In addition to his wife, Evan is survived by one daughter, Denise A. Howard of Canal Winchester, OH; two sons, David E. (Kim) Thomas of Rockbridge, OH and Evan W. Thomas of Lancaster, OH; two stepsons, Keith R. Glenn of Grove City, PA and Craig R. Glenn of Butler, PA; two grandchildren, Sarah Howard and Tim Howard; two step-grandchildren, Lea Glenn and Peyton Glenn. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in passing by his two brothers, Wendell P. and W. Sherwood Thomas and his former wife, Janenne Thomas. Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 28th from 11 to 1 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 1 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Jordan Rimmer officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
