Evelyn Claire Patton, age 101, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Feb. 16, 2023, at her daughter's residence.

Born Oct. 7, 1921, in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth (Fobes) Wilcox.

On Nov. 3, 1937, she married her beloved husband of 33 years, Voltaire L. Patton, who preceded her in death on June 14, 1971.

For thirty years, Claire worked as a Central Supply Supervisor, employed by Jameson Memorial Hospital, until her retirement. She worked alongside her husband as owner and operator of Patton's Nursery and continued cutting her own grass well into her 90's. Claire loved line dancing, bowling, planting flowers, tending to her garden, and rescuing dogs and cats. What gave her the most joy in life, was spending time with her family. She attended Life Changing Ministries.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (David) Ward and Shirley Ann Wright both of New Castle, PA; one brother, Ernest Wilcox of Akron, OH; four grandchildren, Robin Renee (Calvin) Jones, Jackie Wright, Roger Wright, and Danny Wright; 7 great grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, Claire was preceded in death by one brother William Wilcox and one great-great granddaughter, Everleigh Ryan.

Visitation will be held on Mon. Feb. 20th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place, at the funeral home, on Tues. Feb. 21st at noon, with Rev. George Gunn, officiating.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
