Fay Minteer, 95, of Edinburg, PA, passed away the evening of August 28, 2015 in the comfort of her home. Born May 14, 1920 in New Castle, in the building now housing Hyde Drugs in Mahoningtown. She was a daughter of Carl F. Peterson and Nellie B. Gahagan Peterson. She married James H. Minteer, who preceded her in death in 1975. Living most of her 95 years in Edinburg, Fay survived the Great Depression. Mrs. Minteer worked as a Rosie the riveter at Youngstown Steel Door, making jetisonable fuel tanks for combat aircraft in WWII and raised 9 children while being a working mom. Fay retired from Universal Rundle Corp in 1977. After retiring, She became an accomplished quilter. Mrs. Minteer supplied them to her large family, sold the throughout the country and donated many to nursing homes and veterans. She loved casinos and traveling. Fay would leave on a moments notice to visit family or see the USA with anyone going anywhere. Her greatest pleasure was her family and when they get together, it is amazing to behold. They are truly her greatest creation! She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Dennis Bessinger, Ruth and Harry Ratvasky, Viola and Richard Ratvasky, all of Edinburg, and Louise and Christopher Lisac of Roaming Shore, OH; two sons and daughter-in-law, William D. Minteer of Wellington, NV and Fred and Karen Minteer of Edinburg; 22 grandchildren; and so many great and great great grandchildren, it's hard to keep tract. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sons, James, Frank and Tom Minteer; 2 sisters, Ruth Barnes and Alice Roman and four brothers, Bob, Fred, Ed and Patrick Peterson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Don Dittman, Chaplain, Grove Manor Nursing Home, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
