Florence C. Flannery, 97, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Feb.6, 2010 at the Jameson Care Center.Born May 26, 1912, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Frank and Grace Crawford Carlberg.She married Rees Flannery on Christmas Day, 1936. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1998.Florence graduated from Pleasantville High School and Slippery Rock University.She taught for several years in West Pittsburg and Union Township before taking a position at John F. Kennedy School in New Castle for 19 years.Florence was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She was also a member of PASR, NTA and Prime Timers at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.Survivors include a daughter, Dawna Brlan of Gibsonia, Pa.; two sons, Dr. Rees Flannery of Pittsburgh and Dr. Robert Flannery of Greensburg, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Donald Carlberg and Robert Carlberg; and three sisters, Charlotte Kapanick, Helen Monroe, and Jeannette Scott.Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. Rex Wasser of Epworth United Methodist Church will officiate.Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.Memorial contributions may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, 805 E.
