Florence A. McConahy, 91, of New Castle, passed away the night of September 9, 2021, at Jameson Care Center where she was recovering from an injury. Born February 7, 1930, in New Castle, she was the daughter of David B. and Laura (Pontius) McKnight. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 75 years, George R. McConahy, whom she married October 10, 1946. Florence was a graduate of Slippery Rock Teacher's College where she received her bachelor's degree in Library Science. She was employed with the Youth Development Center as a librarian. She also was the GED Coordinator and was devoted to her GED students. Florence was a member of Soroptomist International, an organization to encourage and empower women. She was also the founding member of Contact E.A.R.S. and enjoyed taking care of her family. A member of Faith Country Chapel, she was a Sunday school teacher both there and at Rich Hill U.P. Church and a member of several Bible studies. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Pegg (Chuck) Woods of Polk, PA; three sons, George (Paula) McConahy, Jr. of Butler, PA, David (Laura) McConahy of Volant, PA and Timothy J. (Karen) McConahy of New Castle; eleven grandchildren, Sherri McKnight, Beth Seelbaugh, David McConahy, Jr., Kim Ogin, Jayne Dodgson, Jennifer Jones, John McConahy, Robert McConahy, Timothy Joseph McConahy, Megan Woods and Ashlee Maggie; fifteen great-grandchildren, Gabe and Maggie McKnight, Kevin Seelbaugh, Cody and Marcus McConahy, Kate and Kelsey Ogin, Matthew Dodgson, Andrew, Cameron and Tori Jones, Leyla McConahy, Avery, Isabella and Aubrey Maggie; and three great-great-grandchildren, Aidin, Coltin and Alannah Seelbaugh. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, David McKnight, Jr.; and two sisters, Jane McConnell and Sue Betley. The family would like to give a special thank you to Billie and Nicki for all of their loving care of Florence. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service on Monday, September 13, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Burial will be in Eastbrook Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of memorial contributions, the family asks that you take the time to read a book or read a book to a child in honor of her love of books.
