Francis D. Phillips, Sr., 74, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of November 11, 2017 at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Born November 19, 1942 in Farrell, Pennsylvania, he was the son of William and Wilma Gulentz Phillips.
He was preceded in death on May 4, 1998 by his wife of 32 years, Karen L. Hanna Phillips, whom he married on June 5, 1965.
Mr. Phillips was an Army veteran, serving from 1960-1963 as a PFC.
He was employed at West Penn as a security guard until his retirement.
He was a member of the Tri-State Country Music Association and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, camping, and fishing. He often liked to watch westerns and science fiction movies.
Francis attended Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda L. Wells and Penny J. Knight both of New Castle; one son, Francis David Phillips, Jr. of New Castle; three brothers, Edward White of West Middlesex, Fred White of Florida, and Jim Wathan of Wisconsin; three sisters, Mildred Kendrew and Celia White both of Kentucky and Sandy Hawthorne of Florida; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers; 2 sisters; 1 grandson, Ralph; and 1 great-grandchild, Landon J. Myers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 15, from 10:00-12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A service will take place at 12:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
