Obituary

Frank H. Baker, 81, of Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare in New Wilmington, formerly of Washington, PA and New Castle, passed away the morning of December 27, 2017 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born October 15, 1936 in Plymouth, Ohio, he was the son of Frank M. and Mary Fazio Baker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Pat Callahan Baker, whom he married on September 27, 1958. A New Castle High School graduate, he attended the University of Pittsburgh where he earned his teaching degree. Frank was a Navy veteran with the rank of E-4, during the Korean War. For 15 years he was the owner of B&G Auto Service in New Castle. From 1977-1990 he taught Auto Mechanics at Western Area Vo-Tech and Lawrence County Vo-Tech until his retirement. He went back to his first love of working on cars after his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion in Washington, PA and was an avid reader, enjoyed old movies, travel, and liked to polka dance. Frank was of the Catholic faith. He is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Baker and companion Nancy Roussos of Boardman, Ohio, Frank E. and Cathy Baker of Zelienople and David B. and Susan Baker of Marriottsville, MD; one daughter, Lynne and Richard Barr of Finksburg, MD; two brothers, Carl Baker of Flagstaff, AZ and Tom Baker of Canfield, OH; three sisters, Blanche Martin and Mary Storch both of New Castle, and Kathleen Thompson of Flagstaff, AZ; his companion, Marie Uphold of Tampa, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Emily, Jeffrey JT, Sara, Caroline, Maggie, Kyle, Keaton, Matthew, Nick and Tori; and 1 great-grandchild, Isaac. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Julie and Eleanor; and one brother, Earl Baker. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00-1:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A Blessing Service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Father Frank Almade officiating. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shenango Presbyerian SeniorCare, 238 S.
