Frank McClay, 69, of New Castle, passed away the night of December 5, 2010 at UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh, after a short illness.Frank was born on April 25, 1941 in New Castle, PA to Robert L. and Helem M. McCaughtry McClay. He was a member of the first graduating class at Neshannock High School in 1960. He played football for Neshannock's first football team. Frank married Beryl Ann Smith McClay on July 19, 1969. She survives in New Castle. He attended Youngstown State University. Frank served in the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper while stationed in Iceland and Italy. He worked for Universal Rundle until his retirement. Frank was an avid football fan and loved to read. He volunteered at Challenges.Frank attended First Baptist Church where he was a member of Sparklers. He loved his family and thought of all of his nieces and nephews as his grandchildren.In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Smith, of Fishkill, NY; two nieces and a nephew-in-law, Charline Ford Dicus, of Cedar Park, TX, Kim and Dave Cameron, of Warren, OH; a nephew and niece-in-law, Todd and Robin McClay, of Fredericktown, OH; two sisters-in-law, Nedra McClay, of New Castle, and Grace Ford, of Cedar Park, TX; three great-nieces; three great-nephews; and one expected granddaughter in May.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger McClay.Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. John Yergan of First Baptist Church will be officiating with assistance from Frank's son-in-law, Robert Smith.
