Freda E. (Jane) Kohn, 91, of New Castle, passed away the evening of November 4, 2011 in Jameson Care Center.She was born in Hamilton, Ohio August 21, 1920 to Harry B. List and Aretta Munson List. She married Arthur Kohn, past president and CEO of Fleming Steel. He preceded her in death.Mrs. Kohn sang professionally with several Big Bands in the 1940's under the name Jane Hamilton. Among the most notable were the Dorsey Brothers, the Rudy Newman Orchestra and the Muggsie Spanier Orchestra. She began her singing career in Hamilton, Ontario where she won many singing competitions. She then moved to New York City and sang with many of the Big Bands in Boston, Philadelphia and New York City. Mrs. Kohn spent a year in Paris, France singing as well.Freda "Jane" loved to make people laugh and always had a joke or two to tell. She was never one to complain and always had a positive outlook on life. Jane truly lived life to the fullest.She is survived by two step-sons, Seth Kohn and his wife Kenda of New Castle, and Frank Kohn of Philadelphia; a step-daughter, Miss Deborah Kohn of Warwick, NY; two grandchildren, Megan Kohn of Charlotte, NC and Joshua Kohn of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Lillian, Evelyn, Genevieve and Thelma; two brothers, Herman and Merle; and a step-daughter, Barbara Kohn.Jane will be sadly missed by family and friends. A private memorial service will take place at a later date.Arrangements are by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
