Frederic Bentley Fessler, age 69, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of August 15, 2017 at the VA Medical Center Hospice in Butler. He was honored to spend his last days surrounded by his family, friends, and fellow veterans.
Born April 17, 1948 in New Castle, he was the son of William and Eleanor Van Buren Fessler. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Leslie Johnson Fessler, whom he married February 3, 1968.
A 1966 graduate of Neshannock High School, he served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1970.
Over his lifetime, he was employed with several companies as a truck mechanic and warehouse supervisor.
Affectionately known as Pops by his grandchildren, Fred enjoyed watching his grandchildren at their sporting events and spending time with this family.
An avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Fred loved his church and his church family at Cornerstone Community Church where he was a member.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Troy Steinheiser and Emily and Scott Cannon; 4 grandchildren, Allison Steinheiser and Troy Jacob Steinheiser (finance Samanthia Foy),Madison Cannon and Alex Cannon; one great-grandson, Gunner Steinheiser; one brother , William (Marilyn) Fessler; and his mother-in-law, Catherine Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law William Johnson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 2615 New Butler Road, New Castle, with the Rev. Joe Lahr officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made to Butler Health Care Hospice, 325 New Castle Road, Butler, PA 16001.
