Gary L. "Butch" McKissick, Sr. age 84, of New Wilmington, PA, passed away the morning of Dec. 22, 2020 at UPMC Passavant-McCandless hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 22, 1936, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Opal (Burdette) McKissick.
Gary was a 1954 graduate of New Castle High School and attended Westminster College and Penn State. He worked many years at the family business, McKissick Meat Provision Co., and spent the remaining years working at Waldman's Meats. Gary was an avid horseman; he had a passion for showing jumping horses and won many championships in the tri-state area. Gary enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity where he was known as "the donut man". He loved playing the piano and it was not unusual to hear Gary serenading people wherever he went. He was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, ruling elder and enjoyed working with the youth groups.
Gary is survived by his son, Gary L. (Sue) McKissick, Jr; brother Roger (Fran) McKissick; grandchildren, Marissa and Taylor Lubinski, Nichole, Justin, and Brandon Barry; great-granddaughters, Jenalyn and Helena Nero; and former spouse and friend, Barbara Klenotic.
In addition to his parents and wife, Peggy, Gary was preceded in death by daughter Roxanne Lubinski, great granddaughter, Arianna Nero, and brother Dr. Gaylord McKissick.
A memorial service will be held on Sat. Jan. 30th at 11:00 AM, the family will arrive at 10:30 AM, at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church, 202 E. Clen-Moore Blvd., New Castle. All visitors are asked to adhere to the CDC guidelines in regards to wearing face masks and social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity, 708 Highland Ave, Ste 201, New Castle, PA 16101.
