George D. Alex, 60, of 1105 Crowe Street, New Castle, passed away the night of May 11, 2010 in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.Born June 2, 1949 in New Castle, he was a son of Jack and Effie Hanna Alex. He married Kimberly Kuhn on December 26, 1970. She survives at their home in New Castle.George was a 1967 graduate of New Castle High School. He was employed at Wheatland Tube as a machine operator.George enjoyed making cabinets and furniture. Among his other interests were hunting, archery, fishing and golfing. He attended St. Elias Orthodox Church.In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters and two son-in-laws, Melanie and Charles Kirkwood, Stefanie Alex of New Castle, and Rhonda and Philip Kwiatkowski of Ashville, NC; one brother, Walter (Bing) Ward of Michigan; two sisters, Tanya Kravits of Uniontown, PA, and Shellie Dillon of South Carolina; and three grandchildren, Vincent Alex and Alex and Katherine Kirkwood.He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 15, 2010, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA.A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 11:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
